TUCSON, AZ – The Tucson Roadrunners, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Arizona Coyotes, announced today that the team will host its first-ever School Day Game on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Tucson Arena when the team host the San Diego Gulls. The game will feature a special early start time of 10:00 AM and will offer FREE tickets to students from around Pima County.
Working hand-in-hand with the Pima County Schools Superintendent’s Office, the two sides have partnered in hopes of providing elementary school children with the opportunity to attend their first hockey game while providing an educational experience. Students attending the game will receive a work book that features educational connections with the sport of hockey (i.e. geography, math, science, etc).
“The key to keeping students engaged in school is providing an exciting atmosphere that encourages success. Our continued partnership with the Tucson Roadrunners is providing that spark. This is a tremendous opportunity for Pima County students to experience math and science curriculum through the lens of hockey! It will be a special day for education and we are excited to make school COOL!” said Pima County School Superintendent, Dustin Williams.
With several thousand students in Tucson Arena, this will become the largest field-trip in Pima County school history. Students will be receiving their tickets by way of donation, coming courtesy of Roadrunners Corporate Partners. Season Ticket Members who wish to donate their tickets to the game will receive a voucher per ticket they donate and can learn more about the process by contacting Roadrunners Manager of Ticket Sales/Service Julie Edwards at (520)-777-6717.
“We recently launched Roadrunners Give Back as a way to connect with so many different people and groups in Tucson,” said Bob Hoffman, Roadrunners President. “One of those groups was students and with the School Day Game we are thrilled with the experience we can provide and the opportunity to Pima County Schools to attend a Roadrunners game.”
