Game #8 – Tucson (5-1-1-0) vs. Ontario (3-2-2-0)
7:05 PM MST, Tucson Arena, Tucson, Arizona
Referees: #44 Furman South, #89 Zach Wiebe
Linesmen: #58 Colin Besch, #85 Steve Walsh
ONTARIO TIMES TWO: Tonight marks the second of 12 meetings with the Reign this season and the second of Ontario’s six visits to Tucson Arena. The Reign are playing the final of a five-game road trip, where they’ve gone 1-2-1-1 thus far. The Roadrunners are playing the final of a five-game home stand, where they’ve posted a 3-0-1-0 record through the first four contests. The Roadrunners are coming off of a 3-2 win over Ontario Friday night.
LINEUP: Due to games in consecutive nights, the Roadrunners held an optional skate Saturday morning while most of the team took part in off-ice workouts, video sessions and meetings. Conor Garland, Zbynek Michael, Justin Hache, and Dysin Mayo were the only players to skate, along with goaltenders Marek Langhamer and Austin Lotz. Here’s how the team skated Friday night:
BRENDAN PERLINI – CRAIG CUNNINGHAM – CHRIS MUELLER
GARRET ROSS – RYAN MACINNIS – CONOR GARLAND
MICHAEL BUNTING – TYLER GAUDET – CHRISTIAN FISCHER
ERIC SELLECK – MATIA MARCANTUONI – HENRIK SAMEULSSON
JARRED TINORDI - ANTHONY DEANGELO
DAKOTA MERMIS – KYLE WOOD
BRANDON BURLON – JAMIE MCBAIN
(JUSTIN HACHE – DYSIN MAYO)
27’S HOT: Michael Bunting scored a goal for the third consecutive game Friday night, and assisted on Christian Fischer’s game-winner, racking up two points in the team’s 3-2 win. The young forward will undoubtedly be looking to continue to find the back of the net tonight. “We know what they’re all about, so I think if we just play our game again, we’ll be fine,” Bunting said of facing the Reign in back-to-back situations.
STAY DISCIPLINED: In terms of penalties, the Roadrunners are coming off of their most disciplined outing of the season, taking only one minor infraction Friday night. Tucson was able to keep Ontario’s lethal power play off the ice; the Reign came into the weekend boasting the league’s top man advantage unit, scoring on close to half of their power play chances. Can the Roadrunners stay out of the box again Saturday night?
THE LAST TIME AROUND: In the team’s first meeting of the season on Friday night, Tucson came out on top with a 3-2 victory. Jamie McBain and Michael Bunting registered goals in the first two periods; Christian Fischer netted the eventual game-winner with 7:33 left to play in regulation. Vincent LoVerde scored both of Ontario’s goals. Goaltender Adin Hill made 39 saves in the win.
MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT: The Roadrunners will wear special camouflaged jerseys Saturday night to support the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. The team will present a customized jersey to the base prior to the game; all jerseys will be auctioned off afterward, with all proceeds benefiting the base.
WE’RE DOING IT LIVE: You can catch tonight’s action on AHL Live. Roadrunners play-by-play broadcaster Tom Callahan will have the radio call on AM 1450 KTZR, which can be listened to for free HERE. Callahan’s radio coverage of tonight’s contest will begin at 6:50 PM MST.
