December 30 morning skate notes

By: Alex Kinkopf

Good afternoon from Tucson Arena, where the second-to-last calendar day of the 2016 year is upon us. The Roadrunners are set to close the 365-day campaign with a pair of games against the San Antonio Rampage, the first of which is scheduled for a 7:05 PM start tonight.

Due to a hefty day of travel Thursday, the team’s morning walk-through was optional; 12 skaters took the ice along with goaltenders Marek Langhamer and Justin Peters. Those of who participated included Christian Fischer, Michael Bunting, Ryan MacInnis, Conor Garland, Lindsay Sparks, Trevor Cheek, Stefan Fournier, Hunter Fejes, Brandon Burlon, Kyle Wood, and Jamie McBain. Henrik Samuelsson was on the ice with the team as well.

Justin Peters was the first goalie off the ice and is projected to start in net. Hunter Fejes and Henrik Samuelsson remained on the ice for extra work with Marek Langhamer; those two are tonight’s presumed healthy scratches.

In going off of how the team aligned Wednesday night in Stockton, coupled with a bit of insight into the morning go-around, here’s how the team should align tonight:

FORWARDS:
LAURENT DAUPHIN - CHRIS MUELLER - CHRISTIAN FISCHER
GARRET ROSS - TYLER GAUDET - MARK OLVER
MICHAEL BUNTING - RYAN MACINNIS - CONOR GARLAND
LINDSAY SPARKS - TREVOR CHEEK - STEFAN FOURNIER
(HUNTER FEJES – HENRIK SAMUELSSON)

DEFENSEMEN:
JARRED TINORDI - ZBYNEK MICHALEK
DAKOTA MERMIS - JAMIE MCBAIN
BRANDON BURLON - KYLE WOOD

GOALTENDERS:
JUSTIN PETERS
MAREK LANGHAMER

The Roadrunners will don their brick-red uniforms at on home-ice for the first time tonight; the AHL’s newly mandated rule for dark colors being worn by the host team taking effect this past Monday. Tucson has only worn red jerseys six times this season; they are 2-4-0 when doing so.

San Antonio is scheduled for an 11:15 AM skate; they are beginning a six-game road trip tonight. They come into the evening positioned in last-place in the Pacific Division with a 13-15-2-0 mark.

More to come from another beautiful day in Tucson.
