Roadrunners Acquire Ranford, Troock From Stars

By: Tucson Roadrunners

TUCSON, AZ -  Tucson Roadrunners General Manager Doug Soetaert announced today that the team has acquired forwards Brendan Ranford and Branden Troock from the Texas Stars in exchange for goaltender Justin Peters and defenseman Justin Hache.

“We feel that we have two very good young goaltenders in Adin Hill and Marek Langhamer and want to give them both a chance to play more,” said Soetaert. “Justin is a quality person who needed more ice time. Acquiring Ranford gives us a top-six forward who can score and Troock is a big, hard-working winger who can help us and add depth to our roster.”

Ranford, 24, led the Texas Stars in scoring last season with a career-high 59 points and was a teammate of current Roadrunner Chris Mueller on the Stars team that won the 2014 Calder Cup. This season in 36 games with Texas the Edmonton, Alberta native has six goals and 11 assists for 17 points. Ranford was originally selected in the seventh round (#209 overall) by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

The 22-year-old Troock was originally selected in the fifth round (#134 overall) by the Dallas Stars in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.  With the Stars he has amassed four assists in 10 games while totaling seven goals and nine points in 15 games with the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads this year. The 6-2, 220-pound right wing was also a member of the 2014 Calder Cup Championship team for Texas.

Ranford and Troock will join the Roadrunners in Glendale prior to the team’s games against the Charlotte Checkers this Friday and Saturday night at Gila River Arena. Both games start at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale now through TucsonRoadrunners.com.
