BACK AT IT: Tonight marks the third of four meetings with the Checkers this season, and the first of Charlotte’s two scheduled visits to Gila River Arena. The Checkers are playing the first of a two-game road trip; they’re coming off of an eight-game home stand where they posted a 5-2-1-0 record. The Roadrunners are playing the fourth of a five-game home stand, where they’ve posted a 0-3-0-0 record thus far.
FRESH START: The Roadrunners have followed up their longest win streak in franchise history with their longest string of consecutive losses in team history. Tucson is 0-4-1-0 in their previous five games; a losing streak that began on January 21 in their 3-1 loss to the Checkers. Can the Roadrunners snap their string of consecutive losses against the team it started against?
LINEUP: The team held a morning skate at Gila River Arena in anticipation of tonight’s game. New additions Brendan Ranford and Branden Troock will make their Roadrunners debuts. Eric Selleck is expected to be in the lineup for the first time since December 3. Adin Hill was the first goaltender off and is projected to make his 20th start of the season.
BRENDAN RANFORD – CHRIS MUELLER – CHRISTIAN FISCHER
MICHAEL BUNTING – LAURENT DAUPHIN – ANTHONY DUCLAIR
ERIC SELLECK – TYLER GAUDET – BRANDEN TROOCK
MARK OLVER – RYAN MACINNIS – CONOR GARLAND
(STEFAN FOURNIER – TREVOR CHEEK – MITCH MOROZ)
JARRED TINORDI – ZBYNEK MICHALEK
DAKOTA MERMIS – JAMIE MCBAIN
BRANDON BURLON – KYLE WOOD
THE LAST TIME AROUND: In the teams’ previous meeting on January 22 at Charlotte’s Bojangles’ Coliseum, the Roadrunners fell to the Checkers 2-1 in overtime. Anthony Duclair scored the lone goal for Tucson. Charlotte’s Lucas Wallmark netted the game-winner with 4.7 second left in overtime. Tucson is 0-1-1-0 in their two meetings with the Checkers so far this season.
WHAT IT FEELS LIKE: It’s been over two calendar weeks since the Roadrunners have earned their last win, of which was a 4-1 victory over the Ontario Reign on January 18 at Tucson Arena. Can Tucson rekindle their winning ways and get off to a positive start in return from the All-Star break?
GAMES AT GILA: Due to the Gem, Mineral, and Fossil Showcase being held at Tucson Arena, the Roadrunners will play each of their next two games at Gila River Arena before venturing off on a six-game road trip. Can the Roadrunners find a bit of success in their parent club’s building?
WE’RE DOING IT LIVE: You can catch tonight’s action on AHL Live. Roadrunners play-by-play broadcaster Tom Callahan and color commentator Tim Gassen will have the radio call on AM 1450 KTZR, which can be listened to for free HERE.
