STARRY NIGHT: Tonight marks the fourth of six meetings with the Stars this season, and the first of the Roadrunners’ three scheduled visits to Texas’ HEB Center. The Stars are playing the second of a five-game home stand; they’re coming off of a 2-1 win over the San Antonio Rampage on Saturday. The Roadrunners are playing the first of a six-game road trip; they’re coming off of a 4-2 loss to the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday night.
ROAD WARRIORS: The Roadrunners begin their longest road trip of the season tonight; they are to play each of their next six games in opposing buildings. On the road this season, Tucson is 6-7-3-0; they have not won a game away from home since their December 28 victory over the Stockton Heat at Stockton Arena. Can the Roadrunners get their trip off to a solid start with a win tonight?
LINEUP: There are no hints to any changes being made to the lineup the team skated with last weekend at Gila River Arena. An official, hockey operations-approved lineup will be posted to tonight’s Live Blog 30 minutes prior to puck drop. Below is a look at how the team aligned in their previous game:
BRENDAN RANFORD – CHRIS MUELLER – CHRISTIAN FISCHER
MICHAEL BUNTING – LAURENT DAUPHIN – ANTHONY DUCLAIR
ERIC SELLECK – TYLER GAUDET – BRANDEN TROOCK
MARK OLVER – RYAN MACINNIS – CONOR GARLAND
(STEFAN FOURNIER – MITCH MOROZ)
JARRED TINORDI – ZBYNEK MICHALEK
DAKOTA MERMIS – JAMIE MCBAIN
ANTHONY DEANGELO – KYLE WOOD
HEY, PETEY!: Former Roadrunners goaltender Justin Peters has started both games for the Stars since his trade to Texas on February 1. In his two calls with his new club, he is 1-1-0-0, stopping 49 of a combined 53 shots faced. He is expected to get the start for Texas tonight.
HOMECOMING: Newly acquired forwards Brendan Ranford and Branden Troock will return to the HEB Center for the first time since being traded to Tucson from Texas on February 1. Ranford spent three-plus seasons with the Stars, and registered 17 points (6G, 11A) in 36 games with Texas this year. Troock spent parts of four seasons with the Stars; he totaled four points (4A) in 10 games with Texas this season.
THE LAST TIME AROUND: In the teams’ previous meeting on January 14 at Tucson Arena, the Roadrunners defeated the Stars by a 3-2 score. Tucson scored all three of its goals in the first period, those coming from Stefan Fournier, Christian Fischer, and Michael Bunting. Adin Hill made 36 saves in the victory. Christian Fischer (2G, 4A) leads all Roadrunners players in points scored against the Stars this season (6).
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION: The Roadrunners have been quite successful in matchups with the Stars this season, posting a 2-0-1-0 record in the teams’ previous three meetings, all of which were played at Tucson Arena. With a 12-9-0-1 record on home ice, Texas has been rather strong at the HEB Center. Can the Roadrunners carry their success against the Stars over to tonight’s new location? Tonight marks the Roadrunners’ first visit to Texas’ home building in franchise history.
WE’RE DOING IT LIVE: You can catch tonight’s action on AHL Live. Roadrunners play-by-play broadcaster Tom Callahan will have the radio call on AM 1450 KTZR, which can be listened to for free HERE. Callahan’s radio coverage of tonight’s contest will begin at 6:15 PM MST.
