TUCSON, AZ – The Tucson Roadrunners, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Arizona Coyotes, announced today that defenseman Jalen Smereck will join the team for the remainder of the regular season. Smereck signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Coyotes on October 6, 2016.
The 6-1, 192-pound Smereck spent this season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Flint Firebirds, posting nine goals, 36 assists and 45 points in 60 games to go with a plus-10 rating. The Detroit, MI native went undrafted but was invited to the Coyotes rookie and mini camps, appearing in one NHL preseason game on September 26 with a plus-one rating in 13:44 of game action. He also served as the Firebirds’ assistant captain this year.
Off the ice, Smereck was selected as the Firebirds’ Blue Collar Worker and Humanitarian of the Year.
Tucson will now finish the regular season with five games away from home, starting this Friday night in Manitoba against the Moose at 5 p.m. Radio coverage begins 15 minutes prior to puck drop on flagship station 1450 KTZR.
