TUCSON, AZ – The Tucson Roadrunners, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Arizona Coyotes, announced today that defenseman Kyle Capobianco will join the team for the remainder of the regular season. The club also announced that Trevor Cheek has been signed to a professional try-out agreement.
Capobianco was a third-round pick (#63 overall) by Arizona in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. The Mississauga, Ontario native just finished his Ontario Hockey League career with the Sudbury Wolves after serving as the team’s captain this season and leading the club back to the playoffs after a two-year absence. Capobianco scored 10 goals and 37 assists for 47 points in the regular season and added three assists in six playoff games. The 6-2, 188-pound defenseman also appeared in two preseason games with the Coyotes registering no points, one hit and two blocks while averaging 16:45 time on ice.
He signed a three-year entry level contract with Arizona this past October.
Cheek returns to Tucson where he previously appeared in 20 games with three assists. Overall the 6-2, 200-pound left wing has played 166 AHL games over the last four seasons, totaling 13-22-35. This season with the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets Cheek has 19 goals and 34 points in 35 games to go with a plus-11 rating.
Tucson will now finish the regular season with five games away from home, starting this Friday night in Manitoba against the Moose at 5 p.m. Radio coverage begins 15 minutes prior to puck drop on flagship station 1450 KTZR.
