The Roadrunners fell 5-3 to the Ontario Reign Friday night in a preseason affair at Citizens Business Bank Arena, the first of the team’s two scheduled exhibition contests.
Jens Looke registered the Roadrunners’ opening goal when he buried a cross-slot feed from Dennis Kravchenko at the 16:28 mark of the first period to tie the game 1-1. Artur Tyanulin provided the secondary assist.
Midway through the second period, Jalen Smereck gave the Roadrunners their first and only lead of the evening, a 2-1 advantage, when he fired a wrist-shot through traffic and past Ontario’s Cal Peterson. Looke recorded his second point of the night with his assist on Smereck’s marker.
The Reign would respond with three consecutive goals to take a 4-2 lead into the early stages of the third period.
Ryan MacInnis brought the Roadrunners back to within a goal with just over 12 minutes left to play in regulation with a power play tally. Kyle Capobianco and Kyle Wood provided the assists.
Ontario’s Matt Luff scored his second goal of the night with 38 seconds left to play in the third to give the Reign a 5-3 lead, the night’s eventual final score.
Goaltender Adin Hill finished the night with 17 saves on 22 shots faced.
Jens Looke (1G, 1A) led all Roadrunners players in points scored with two.
The Roadrunners will complete their preseason slate Saturday night at the Valley View Casino Center, where they’re scheduled to battle the San Diego Gulls at 7:00 PM.
