The Roadrunners unveiled their uniform set for the team’s 2016-17 inaugural American Hockey League season Monday afternoon in front of a crowd of season ticket members, local media, and representatives of the University of Arizona Sports and Marketing Association.
Defenseman Brandon Burlon and forward Craig Cunningham showed off the club's new threads, while General Manager Doug Soetaert, President Bob Hoffman, and Play-by-Play broadcaster Tom Callahan were present to mingle and interact with fans and media.
Chad Berman, the University of Arizona men’s club hockey team head coach was also on-hand with a few of his players to receive a $9,000 check – money that was raised thanks to the donations put forth from fans who attended Sunday afternoon’s Red/White scrimmage with the Arizona Coyotes at Tucson Arena.
The Roadrunners’ uniforms, which include two primary sets, are fitted in the team’s official colors of brick red, desert sand, copper, black and white. The team, per the AHL’s newly instituted rule, will wear their white uniforms at home for the first half of the season, and their dark templates at home during the second half of the campaign.
The jersey’s main crest boasts the team’s primary logo with the Roadrunners word mark underneath. The Coyotes’ primary logo is on the right shoulder of the uniforms, while the team’s alternate ‘AZ’ badge, in the shape of the state of Arizona, is on the left shoulder.
In an ode to the Roadrunners’ past, the overall design of the uniform lightly resembles that of the old Phoenix Roadrunners, who were members of the International Hockey League from 1989-1997.
The piping on the team’s jerseys will be mirrored on the socks. Black pants and gloves will be worn with both uniform sets; the team will wear matching white and brick red helmets with their respective jerseys.
Along with their primary uniforms, the Roadrunners are scheduled to wear three different promotional jerseys during their inaugural season. The team will don Military Appreciation Night jerseys on November 5, 2016 against the Ontario Reign, University of Arizona Wildcats Night jerseys on January 13 &14 against the Texas Stars, and Breast Cancer Awareness jerseys on March 18 against the Bakersfield Condors.
