Morning practice, off to San Diego

By: Alex Kinkopf

Good afternoon from Gila River Arena, where the Roadrunners held an hour-long morning skate that spanned from 9:00 – 10:00 AM. The team is currently on a bus en route to Southern California for Friday night’s regular season opener against the San Diego Gulls, which is slated for a 7:00 PM PST start at the Valley View Casino Center.

And, so it begins.

Friday marks the first of 12 meetings with the Gulls this season, the teams will play six games at each club’s respective home building. A full game-preview, with insight on what to expect from San Diego’s roster in the opening contest will be available following Friday’s morning skate coverage. The Roadrunners will take to the ice at 11:15 AM Friday for their pre-game skate.

As for Thursday’s practice in Glendale, it was extremely high-tempo. Everything from defensive zone face-offs to simulated forechecks and breakouts were in the coaches’ practice repertoire.

No changes were made to the lines the team skated with Tuesday and Wednesday. For a refresher, the players have been aligning as such:

FORWARDS
RED: BRENDAN PERLINI – CHRIS MUELLER – CRAIG CUNNINGHAM
WHITE: GARRET ROSS – RYAN MACINNIS – CHRISTIAN FISCHER – TREVOR CHEEK
GREY: MICHAEL BUNTING – TYLER GAUDET – CONOR GARLAND
BLUE: ERIC SELLECK – MARK OLVER – STEFAN FOURNIER – MATIA MARCANTUONI

DEFENSEMEN
DAKOTA MERMIS – ANTHONY DEANGELO
BRANDON BURLON – KYLE WOOD
JUSTIN HACHE – DYSIN MAYO

GOALTENDERS
JUSTIN PETERS
MAREK LANGHAMER

There’s a solid chance the above alignment will be very similar to what the Roadrunners take to the ice with Friday night at 7:00 PM, with a few scratches in the mix.

The team’s official opening night roster, which is currently in the process of being approved by the American Hockey League, will be announced Friday morning.

The regular season opener will be streamed on AHL Live; play-by-play broadcaster Tom Callahan will have the call of the game on the Roadrunners’ official flagship radio station, AM 1450 KTZR. Free, live audio access will be available on TucsonRoadrunners.com when Callahan’s pregame show starts promptly 15 minutes prior to puck-drop at 6:45 PM PST.
