John Ferguson General Manager
John Ferguson was named General Manager of the Tucson Roadrunners on September 15, 2021, and enters his fifth season at the helm in 2025-26. During his tenure, 48 players have advanced to the NHL, including 17 who made their NHL debuts.
Ferguson joined the Coyotes from the Boston Bruins, where for seven years, he served as the organization’s Executive Director of Player Personnel and General Manager of the Providence Bruins (AHL). Ferguson joined the Bruins’ hockey operations staff on June 27, 2014 and was named as General Manager for Providence on Sept. 15, 2016. While with the Bruins, Ferguson scouted at the professional and amateur levels with an eye to adding both prospects and roster players to the team. He also served as an advisor in evaluating potential trades, signings and other transactions.
The Montreal native brings a wealth of experience to the front office, having run every facet of a hockey operations department during his career . Ferguson previously served for six seasons as the Director of Pro Scouting for the San Jose Sharks (2008-14), four-plus seasons as Vice President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs (2003-08) and six seasons as Assistant General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations with the St . Louis Blues (1997-2003). He has also served as both an amateur and professional scout for the Ottawa Senators.
In 2007, Ferguson served as a member of Team Canada’s management group at the 2007 IIHF World Championship in Russia. He collaborated with Steve Yzerman in selecting Canada’s unbeaten gold medal roster, which was the youngest team to ever win a World Championship.
Ferguson played college hockey at Providence College, where he served as an assistant captain and was an Academic All-American. He was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens as a 12th-round selection in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft and played four seasons at the AHL level with Sherbrooke, Peoria, Fredericton, and New Haven. In 1995, he earned his law degree from Suffolk University Law School and was a player agent for one season in 1996-97 .
He and his wife Stephanie have four children, sons Johnny and Nicholas and daughters Emily and Grace.
Jake Wagman Director of Hockey Operations
Jake Wagman enters his fifth season with the Roadrunners in 2025-26 after joining the organization as Director of Hockey Operations in September 2021. He oversees all hockey operations aspects for the team, including roster management, NHL/AHL Collective Bargaining Agreement Compliance, AHL Affiliate Agreement, budgeting and team travel.
Before arriving in Tucson, Wagman spent three seasons as Director of Hockey Operations for the Western Hockey League’s Kelowna Rockets. Prior to that, he worked as an attorney in Denver, CO, where he negotiated NHL contracts for various high-profile players, prepared NHL salary arbitration briefs and advised clients on navigating the NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Wagman began his career in hockey operations with the University of Denver Men’s Hockey team as a Hockey Operations Assistant, helping the Pioneers win an NCHC Championship. His first role in the sport following his playing career was with the Queen’s University Men’s Hockey team as a Video Coordinator.
A native of Toronto, ON, Wagman brings a diverse and well-rounded background in hockey, law, and team operations.
Steve Potvin Head Coach
Steve Potvin, 50, enters his fifth season as Head Coach of the Tucson Roadrunners and 10th season overall with the organization in 2025-26. He led the team to a 34-32-4-2 record and a third consecutive playoff berth during the 2024-25 season.
Under Potvin’s leadership, the Roadrunners posted a 43-23-4-2 mark in 2023-24, finishing second in the Pacific Division. The 13-win improvement from the previous season led the AHL, as did the 19 player recalls to the NHL, including six players who made their NHL debuts. The season also marked the third straight year the Roadrunners increased their win total under Potvin.
Through four seasons behind the bench, Potvin has compiled a 120-108-19-5 record and has led Tucson to the Calder Cup Playoffs each year.
Potvin originally joined the Roadrunners as a Skills Coach during the 2016-17 season before being named Assistant Coach ahead of the 2017-18 campaign. Tucson captured Pacific Division titles in 2017-18 and 2019-20 with Potvin serving as an Assistant.
Since joining the Roadrunners staff, 29 players have made their NHL debuts, including:

- 6 in 2023-24
- 2 in 2022-23
- 8 in 2021-22
- 4 in 2020-21
During the 2021-22 season, Tucson’s power play, directed by Potvin, set a team record with a 21.5% conversion rate – ranking seventh in the AHL. His work with the forward group also helped the 2019-20 Roadrunners finish fourth in the league in goals per game (3.41), with three players among the AHL’s top 15 scorers.
A native of Montreal, QC, Potvin enjoyed a 16-year professional playing career prior to coaching, appearing in 478 games across the AHL and Europe. He recorded 75 points (31g, 44a) in 158 AHL games and added 317 points (133g, 184a) in 350 European league contests. He concluded his playing career with the Arizona Sundogs of the CHL in 2009-10.
Steve and his wife Nada have lived in Arizona for more than 14 years with their three children: Max, Nash, and Eliana.
John Slaney Assistant Coach
John Slaney, 53, was named as a Tucson Roadrunners Assistant Coach on July 26, 2017 after serving two seasons as an Assistant Coach with the Arizona Coyotes. The 2025-26 season marks his 15th overall with the organization as a coach and his ninth with the Roadrunners. Slaney previously spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the Portland Pirates (Arizona Coyotes AHL). He started with the Pirates in 2011-12 after finishing his playing career with Plzen HC (Czech) following the 2010-11 season.
He spent parts of the 1996-97 season playing with the Phoenix Roadrunners in the IHL and parts of the 1997-98 season playing with the Coyotes.
Leaving his mark as one of the best defensemen in AHL history, Slaney joined the Pirates coaching staff with a wealth of accolades. Slaney was a two-time recipient of the Eddie Shore Award (given annually to the AHL’s top defenseman) with the Philadelphia Phantoms in the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons, and also won a Calder Cup championship with the Phantoms in 2005.
He was inducted into the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Hall of Fame in 2016.
A member of the Penguins inaugural team, Slaney appeared in 89 games
with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton during parts of two seasons (1999-2001), recording 42-68-110 points. Slaney became the AHL’s all-time leading scorer as a defenseman in 2005-06 until his mark (519 career points) was surpassed by Oklahoma City’s Bryan Helmer.
Slaney also played in 29 games and posted 14-13-27 for Portland during the 1993-94 Calder Cup championship season.
During his career in the NHL, Slaney totaled 91 points (22-69-91) in 268 games with the Washington Capitals (1993-95), Colorado Avalanche (1995-96), Los Angeles Kings (1995-97), Phoenix Coyotes (1997-98), Nashville Predators (1998-99), Pittsburgh Penguins (1999-00), and Philadelphia Flyers (2001-02; 2003-04). Slaney also skated in 14 games for the Capitals (1993-94), Penguins (1999-00), and Flyers (2001-02) during the Stanley Cup Playoffs where he netted two goals and registered an assist.
The 52-year-old native of St. John’s, Newfoundland was originally drafted by Washington in the first round (ninth overall) of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft.
He and his wife, Brenda, have a son, Tyler, and daughter, Julia.
Zack Stortini Assistant Coach
Zack Stortini enters his fourth season with the Roadrunners in 2025-26 after joining the organization as an Assistant Coach in August 2022. He arrived in Tucson from the Ontario Hockey League’s Sudbury Wolves, where he served as Associate Coach from 2019 to 2022.
Stortini, 39, transitioned into coaching with Sudbury in 2019-20 following a 14-year professional playing career that spanned 858 games – 257 in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators, and 601 in the AHL.
The Ontario native retired in 2019 after capturing his second Calder Cup Championship as a member of the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers. He previously won a Calder Cup in 2007 with the Hamilton Bulldogs and made three trips to the Calder Cup Finals during his career.
Originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 2003, Stortini led the AHL in penalty minutes with 299 during the 2013-14 season with the Norfolk Admirals. His 1,825 career AHL penalty minutes rank third among all players since 2003 and 15th all-time in league history.
Known as a leader both on and off the ice, he served as captain of the Binghamton Senators during the 2015-16 season and was a three-time nominee for the AHL’s Yanick Dupré Memorial Award, recognizing his commitment to community service and charitable work.
Jeff Hill Goaltending Development Coach
Jeff Hill is in his second season with the organization after joining Utah in July 2024.
In his current role, Hill works with the organization’s minor league goaltenders, as well as goaltending prospects at the collegiate and junior levels. He is based in Tucson.
Hill brings more than 15 years of coaching experience across multiple leagues, including the NCAA, Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), and National League (NL). He joined the organization from Adler Mannheim (DEL), where he served as an assistant coach during the 2023–24 season. Prior to that, he spent two seasons (2021–23) as the goaltending coach for SC Bern (NL) and six seasons with the University of Vermont as an assistant coach and director of hockey operations.
Eric Bechtol Equipment Manager
Eric joined the Roadrunners in July 2016 for the team’s first season in Tucson after working for the team’s ECHL affiliate Rapid City Rush. A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, he studied at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. He has a lengthy career working in professional hockey with the Fort Worth Fire (CHL), St. Louis Blues (NHL), Kalamazoo Wings (UHL, IHL, ECHL), and the Nurnberg Ice Tigers (DEL). He currently resides in Casa Grande with his wife Nicki. They have three children: Gavin, Hannah and Caden, along with their dog Ollie.
Jordan Ellis Head Athletic Trainer
Jordan was named the Roadrunners Head Athletic Trainer in December of 2021 following Bill Nervig’s promotion to the NHL. He joined the Roadrunners for the 2018-2019 season as the Assistant Athletic Trainer after serving as a Resident Athletic Trainer for the University of Minnesota-Duluth and their 2018 Men’s Frozen Four Championship Team. He earned his Bachelors of Science in 2014 from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and earned his Masters of Arts in Athletic Training from them in 2017 as well. The Omaha native worked with the Omaha Lancers of the USHL and the hockey team at University of Nebraska-Omaha during his schooling as well. He is a Certified Athletic Trainer and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist along with a member of the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Association (PHATS). He lives in Marana with his wife Taylor and dog Rooney.
Parker Poore Performance Coach
Parker joined the Roadrunners in February of 2021 as the team’s Performance Coach after spending the previous season as a game day Strength and Conditioning coach with the Arizona Coyotes. Prior to moving back to the desert, he was an assistant hockey coach at Bridgeton Academy (2017-2018) where he oversaw the off-ice training of the hockey team, while assisting with Lacrosse and Football. Parker also spent time working with LPGA athletes to train them and manage their off-course performance. He is a graduate of Lindenwood University where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Strength and Conditioning and a minor in Nutrition. He earned his Masters degree in Applied Sports Psychology through Adams State University. Parker resides in Starr Pass. He was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Jimmy McKnight Assistant Athletic Trainer
Jimmy joined the Roadrunners Summer 2024 from the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings where he served the past three seasons as the Head Athletic Therapist and won the 2022 WHL Championship. Prior to that, he was the Head Athletic Therapist and Strength Coach for the OHL’s Barrie Colts from 2017-2021. He has also worked with Hockey Canada as an Athletic Trainer and earned Gold (2024, Finland) and Bronze (2023, Switzerland) at the IIHF U18 World Championship and Silver (2022, Canada) at the World U17 Hockey Challenge. McKnight is a graduate of Brock University’s Bachelor of Science and Kinesiology (BSc. Kin) program where he also played on the Men’s Varsity Rugby team. Following his time at Brock, he went west to Mount Royal University to obtain his Post-Graduate Certificate in Athletic Therapy. He is a certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
Aidan McConnell Assistant Equipment Manager
Aidan joined the Roadrunners in July of 2024. He joins the Roadrunners after serving the last three seasons as a Visiting Locker Room Attendant for the Arizona Coyotes and as an Equipment Assistant for Arizona State University where he also graduated from the W. P. Carey School of Business, with a Bachelor of Arts, Sports Business. The Pittsburgh native grew up playing hockey before coming to the desert.
Nikki Patel Assistant Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist
Nikki joins the Roadrunners for their 2024-2025 season as their first Physical Therapist on staff. She joins the team from Philadelphia where she previously worked as a Physical Therapist/Athletic Trainer for Temple University/Novacare and has AT experience with the Philadelphia Flyers, NBA Referee Association and several other colleges along the east coast.
Nikki earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy, Masters in Anatomy and Clinical Health Sciences and Bachelors in Athletic Training at the University of Delaware. #RollHens She also obtained her certificate as a Performance Enhancement Specialist through NASM and is EXOS trained as a Performance Specialist.

Dr. Allison Lane is the Medical Director for the Tucson Roadrunners. She is a Banner – University Medicine Physician specializing in Emergency Medicine and Sports Medicine. She is also an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Core Faculty of The University of Arizona Emergency Medicine Residency Program. In addition to her work as an Emergency Medicine physician for Banner – University Medicine, she is also the Head Team Physician for FC Tucson and the MLS preseason in Tucson, a Team Physician for the Tucson Sugar Skulls and the University of Arizona.
Dr. Lane completed her BS in Biopsychology and Cognitive Sciences from the University of Michigan. She completed both her Medical School training and Residency Training at the University of Arizona. She continued her Sports Medicine training with the University of Arizona and completed the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship with a CAQ in Sports Medicine.

Dr. Holly Beach is a Banner – University Medicine physician specializing in Primary Care Sports Medicine. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nevada, Reno and her medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine. She completed her Family Medicine Residency training at the University of Arizona and went on to receive additional fellowship training with the University of Arizona Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Arizona and is also the University of Arizona Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Director.
Dr. Beach has a special interest in treating sports related concussions and is a Certified Impact Credentialed Specialist. Along with her medical team she helps to provide athletes with evidence-based evaluations and treatment plans to help them safely return to sports, school and all other activities as soon as possible. She also enjoys treating competitive and recreational athletes of all ages for musculoskeletal injuries and sports related medical conditions.

Dr. William Denq is a Banner – University Medicine physician specializing in Emergency Medicine and Sports Medicine. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Arizona and is dual boarded in both Emergency and Sports Medicine. He trained at the University of Pittsburgh for medical school, George Washington University for Emergency Medicine residency, and the University of Utah for Sports Medicine fellowship. He has provided medical coverage for teams such as U.S. Speedskating, U.S. Ski and Snowboard, Utah Jazz, and the University of Utah collegiate programs. He additionally has been the deputy medical director for the Rock ‘n Roll Marathon in Washington D.C. and provided coverage for multiple other races such as the Tour of Utah and Navy Half-Marathon. He currently is a physician for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard team and is a board member of the Sports Medicine Section for the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Dr. Denq believes in a well-rounded, evidence-based, and patient-centric approach to sports medicine. He is able to evaluate and manage patients of all ages and specializes in utilizing new technologic adaptations such as ultrasound for both diagnostic and therapeutic reasons.

Dr. Greg DeSilva is Banner – University Medicine physician and the faculty of The University of Arizona Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Hand and Upper Extremity Service, as Associate Professor, Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery. In July 2009, Dr. DeSilva was appointed Residency Program Director. In addition, Dr. DeSilva is an orthopaedic consultant to the University of Arizona Athletic Department and provides care to University of Arizona athletes.
Dr. DeSilva is a native of Detroit, MI where he grew up around the sport of hockey. He earned his bachelor’s and medical degree from the University of Michigan and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. DeSilva was a resident team physician for the University of Michigan football and hockey teams. He completed his fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at Union Memorial Hospital, Curtis National Hand Center, in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. DeSilva is board certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery with additional ABOS certification in the sub-specialty of hand surgery.
Dr. DeSilva’s area of special expertise focuses on traumatic/post-traumatic reconstruction of the elbow, forearm, wrist and hand. His research and clinical interests include management of bone loss in the upper extremity, distal radius fractures and soft tissue coverage of traumatic wounds.
Now in Tucson since 2007, Dr. DeSilva, wife Christine, and five children are vibrant members of the Tucson community. Dr. DeSilva serves as team physician and hand surgery consultant for the University of Arizona athletic department, site physician for the Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl, and tournament physician for the ITF professional tennis tournaments held in Tucson. He loves taking care of all orthopedic conditions of the hand, wrist, and elbow and cherishes getting athletes back to play the game they love.
Michael Feldman MD, CAQ-SM – Orthopedic Surgery, Sports Medicine

Dr. Michael Feldman is the Director of Sports Medicine at Banner – University Medicine in Tucson. He is a Board Certified, Fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine. He has a special interest in arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery of the hip, knee, shoulder and ankle.
Dr. Feldman received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Pennsylvania and graduated Magna Cum Laude with Distinction in Biochemistry. He attended the University of Pennsylvania for Medical School and completed his orthopedic internship and residency training at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Feldman went on to receive additional training in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine completing a fellowship at the Institute for Bone and Joint Disorders in Phoenix, AZ.
In April of 2015, Dr. Feldman was the recipient of the prestigious Stephen J. Snyder Excellence in Teaching Award from the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) which annually recognizes the most outstanding teaching physician that values AANA’s mission to promote and foster the professional development and knowledge of arthroscopic surgery.
Dr. Feldman is a retired war veteran of United States Army Reserve, having attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and has performed active duty service in Iraq, Kosovo and Germany. He currently resides with his family in Tucson, AZ.

Dr. Dan Latt is a Banner – University Medicine physician specializing in Orthopaedic Surgery for the knee, foot, and ankle. He is an Associate Professor with Tenure of Orthopaedic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arizona and is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon. He specializes in the care of injuries of the knee, ankle and foot. He is an expert in the treatment of tendon problems, arthritis, and complex deformities of the lower extremity.
Dr. Latt earned his medical degree from The University of Pittsburgh in 2002. He completed residency training in orthopaedic surgery at McGill University in Montreal, in 2007. He is fellowship trained in both sports medicine (Kaiser, San Diego 2008) and foot and ankle surgery (Duke University, 2009).
Dr. Latt is the founder and medical director of the Dance Medicine Clinic at the University of Arizona School of Dance. He currently serves as the Medical Director of the Orthopaedic Surgery Service at Banner – University Medical Center South and as chair of the credentials committee.
In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Latt has a PhD in Bioengineering (University of Pittsburgh, 2001). He maintains an active research program in orthopaedic biomechanics.
When not at work, Dr. Latt enjoys cycling and rock climbing.

Dr. Anna Waterbrook is a Banner – University Medicine physician specializing in Emergency Medicine and Sports Medicine. She is dual-board certified in both emergency and sports medicine. She is the Emergency Medicine consultant and Assistant Team Physician for the University of Arizona athletes.
Dr. Waterbrook’s special interests include using ultrasound at the bedside to both diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions. When she is not at work she enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and 4 children.
James Dill MD – Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellow
Dr. James Dill is a Banner – University Medicine physician specializing in Emergency and Pediatric Medicine. He is currently a Fellow in the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship through the University of Arizona. His interest in medicine began after living for several years at a missions hospital in Cameroon, Africa, when he was in middle and high school. He began studying medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, then moved to Tucson where he was a resident in the combined Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics program at the University of Arizona. After graduating from residency in 2019, he started his sports medicine fellowship at UA that same year. His interests are global health, pediatric sports and emergency medicine, and long-distance hiking/thru-hike medicine.
Aimee Monahan DO – Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellow
Dr. Aimee Monahan is a Banner – University Medicine physician specializing in Family Medicine. She is currently a Fellow in the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship through the University of Arizona. Dr. Monahan was born and raised in New York. She received her medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency in Family Medicine from Rowan University and is board certified in family medicine. Growing up, she played softball and field hockey, which is what sparked her interest in the field of sports medicine. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with her fiancé, baking, and exploring the restaurant scene in Tucson. She loves to travel, especially to beach destinations, and her favorite country she has visited so far has been Nepal.
Brendan Parker MD – Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellow
Dr. Brendan Parker is a Banner – University Medicine physician specializing in Emergency Medicine. He is currently a Fellow in the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship through the University of Arizona. Dr. Parker grew up in Seattle, WA and graduated from Santa Clara University in 2009. Brendan went on to medical school at The University of Toledo College of Medicine and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center in 2019. Dr. Parker enjoys working with athletes at all levels and enjoys competing in marathons and triathlons in his spare time.
