1-On-1 With John Slaney

Q: You’ve been around the game for a long time. What have you seen change over the years? Was there one big change that you have noticed? Well, definitely. The game has gotten way faster. I can tell you that for sure. The physical part, I guess, has kind of removed a little bit. I mean, for years, we talk about the back in the 70s and in the 80s, a little bit more fighting. I wouldn't say that's out of the game. But for me, the biggest change is just how fast these kids play. It's just, I mean, the stick's also going for a wooden stick. With the sticks too, it's just been unbelievable how the game has just been going, I mean, I can really speak for the girls’ side, as well, how the game has been going and it's a fast game for entertainment for people.

1-on-1 with Travis Barron

Q: Awesome weekend this weekend! That pass from John Leonard looked like it was drawn up during a timeout. Just a heads up play by John and very unselfish as well. You're going down to an empty net and for him to pull up and look for the pass is pretty impressive stuff. So kudos to him, great play and I happily put it in. Q: When was the last time you scored a hat trick? What does it feel like? It's been a couple of years. It's not very common especially for a player in my role, and when they come it's a great day. It's just one of those things you can't predict. You're just in the right place at the right time and your linemates are making good plays. It feels nice to be honest. Like I said, they don't come very often, and you just have to enjoy it when they do

Then next up, Nathan Smith, Dylan Guenther and Milos Kelemen, they drew a penalty. Stuff like that shifts the game and everybody did a great job and were making it happen in the win. A: I think we have a good group here and I think what you’re talking about, we have a lot of smart players who set up the next shift. I feel like that’s a big part of hockey. Dougy did a really good job there. We had back-to-back good shifts and we drew a penalty and then the game was back in our favor. Q: It’s usually our daily routine to be at the rink right when we got to the rink (Tuesday). To play a game was kind of a bonus. It was almost like showing up to school and you get to watch a movie in second period. A: That actually hits the nail on the head. I talked to a couple of those guys after the game, my buddies on San Diego, and I talked to their coach a bit too, and I was telling them that for us the only thing that changed today was that we were putting our game jersey on instead of the practice. The schedule was the exact same, slept in my own bed last night, no travel involved, just a regular day. I’m bias, but I think 1:30 or 2 o’clock is the perfect time to be going home. It’s nice. Not a late night, you get to just relax and kick your feet up for the rest of the day and recover a little better.

1-on-1 with Bob Hoffman

Catch Happy Hour every Tuesday at 5 p.m. on Fox Sports 1450 AM and the Roadrunners Happy Hour Podcast on the iHeartRadio app. Let’s lead off with the hockey. It was a good weekend for the roadrunners, it’s a team that has four components to it. Our prospects who we’ve grown into third- and fourth-year players, our new prospects, recently drafted, and some guys that cause problems around the American Hockey League for us that our now on our side. I’ll tell you Adrian, going into this weekend it was interesting because on paper you saw the depth, you saw the American Hockey League talent of guys that have 2 or 3 years under their belt playing in the AHL. The goaltending nemesis that we saw in Ontario for many years along with the Justin Kirkland’s of the world and Leonard. There are a lot of really good players that have done things in the AHL and then they come over to us and make great pieces for this Roadrunners lineup to accent those first and second year younger players and the prospects we’ve been developing. I was overly impressed with how they played. More so the little things that you don’t typically see in the start of the season. Bob, always exciting, the player red carpet walk and tailgate starting 4:00 PM just creates the buzz that we’ll bring inside and look to win another home opener. We love getting things started and that home opener will always have a special place. Come and enjoy the tailgate. It will be beautiful weather. Hang out before the game, see the players walk the red carpet, and then come see a great show against, who was ultimately, the best in the west last year. A team in Coachella Valley that did things last year, in an expansion year, that teams hadn’t done. I’m excited to get that underway and go out there and make a statement against Coachella Valley and see what this team can do at home. It’s a great opportunity to get off to a great start.
