Game #34 – Admirals at Roadrunners

The Roadrunners close out their four-game home stand at the Tucson Arena Wednesday night, with the second of two contests against the Milwaukee Admirals. Tuesday’s series opener was the Admirals first ever trip to the Tucson Arena, while Wednesday marks their final appearance of the season in the Old Pueblo. The Roadrunners fell to the AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators by a score of 7-5 in the series opener on Tuesday, outscoring them 5-4 over the final 47:12 of the game. Following Wednesday’s series finale, Tucson will head on the road for three games in five days against three different teams, beginning on Saturday against the Bakersfield Condors. The series finale represents another Kids Free Wednesday at the Tucson Arena, as all kids 12 and under can receive a free ticket with a paying adult at the Tucson Arena Box Office and $2 souvenir cup refills also available during the game.

Tucson, Arizona – The Roadrunners suffered a 7-5 defeat to the Milwaukee Admirals in Tuesday night’s series opener from the Tucson Arena. Tucson fell behind early by a score of 3-0 but pulled to within one of the Admirals four separate times before the end of the contest. Tuesday night marked the return of Mike Carcone to the Roadrunners lineup for the first time since December 23, as the top scorer in the AHL extended his league lead with two goals and an assist. The Roadrunners will wrap up the midweek set with the AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators Wednesday night from the Tucson Arena at 6:30 p.m. MST.

Game #33 – Admirals at Roadrunners

The Roadrunners will host the Milwaukee Admirals Tuesday night for their first ever regular-season meeting with the AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators. The midweek series wraps up a four-game home stand at the Tucson Arena, with six additional home contests coming up in the month of January. The Roadrunners come into the series after their first two contests of 2023 Friday and Saturday, while the Admirals arrive from Milwaukee after a series split with the San Diego Gulls over the weekend.

Game Recap: Colorado (6) at Tucson (1)

Tucson, Arizona – The Roadrunners wrapped up a two-game set against the Colorado Eagles Saturday night with a 6-1 loss to the AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. The visiting Eagles took a total of eight trips to the man-advantage Saturday, but the Roadrunners penalty-kill finished the night seven-for-eight to allow just one power-play goal over the weekend series. Goaltender Jon Gillies made the start in net for Tucson with 32 total saves, including a perfect 15-for-15 mark in the second period. The Roadrunners will continue their four-game home stand with the first of two meetings against the Milwaukee Admirals on Tuesday, January 10, at 6 :30 p.m. MST.

Game #32 – Eagles at Roadrunners

The 14-13-4-0 Roadrunners will be back at the Tucson Arena Saturday night for the second of two games on the weekend against the Colorado Eagles. Saturday’s series finale marks the last chance to see the Eagles at the Tucson Arena this season, as the Roadrunners and the AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche have only four matchups against each other on the regular-season schedule, the fewest since the Colorado Eagles joined the American Hockey League in 2018. The Roadrunners are celebrating their first Kachina Saturday of 2023 by hosting the fan-favorite Whiskey and Wings Event at the Tucson Arena from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Tucson, Arizona – The Roadrunners were narrowly defeated by the Colorado Eagles Friday night at the Tucson Arena by a score of 2-1, in the first of two meetings on the weekend with the AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. Each period featured a single goal, as Tucson forward Ryan McGregor tied the contest at 1-1 early in the second with his third goal on the season. Ivan Prosvetov opened the calendar year in between the pipes for the Roadrunners and stopped 25 shots including a perfect second period. Tucson outdrew the Eagles in trips to the power-play and finished the night a perfect four-for-four on the penalty-kill. The Roadrunners and Eagles wrap up the two-game set in the desert Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Game #31 – Eagles at Roadrunners

The 14-12-4-0 Roadrunners are in Tucson to open 2023 with a four-game home stand beginning Friday, January 6 against the Colorado Eagles. The series opener against Colorado is the first game for Tucson since December 31, while the Eagles are coming off of a 4-2 loss to the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Wednesday, January 4. Friday’s contest also represents the start of a busy January for Tucson, with 10 home games and 14 total matchups throughout the month.

Cedar Park, Texas – The Roadrunners fell to the Texas Stars by a score of 4-1 Saturday night at the H-E-B Center to conclude a two-game set from Texas. A third-period comeback attempt by the Roadrunners was stopped by a Stars power-play strike and an empty-net goal in the final 3:16 of regulation, as Tucson and Texas were either tied or separated by one goal for 55:33 of the opening 56:44 of the contest. Jon Gillies stopped 29 of 32 shots faced for Tucson, while forward J.S. Dea extended his active team lead in goals scored to 13 with an even-strength tally in the third period. The Roadrunners will return home and open a four-game home stand at the Tucson Arena on Friday, January 6 against the Colorado Eagles.

Game #30 – Roadrunners at Stars

The 14-11-4-0 Tucson Roadrunners close out the 2022 calendar year with the second of two meetings with the Texas Stars at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park. Tucson fell in Friday’s series opener by a score of 7-3, their first game since before the Holiday Break on Friday, December 23. Saturday’s series finale represents the 13th and final game in the month of December for Tucson, the second-most of any month this season behind January’s 14 upcoming contests. The contest also marks the fourth New Year’s Eve Game in Roadrunners franchise history, and the first for Tucson since 2019. The Roadrunners have a 2-1 record on New Year’s Eve entering the series finale with Texas, with wins over the San Diego Gulls and Ontario Reign in 2019 and 2017, respectively.

Cedar Park, Texas – The Roadrunners fell to the Texas Stars by a score of 7-3 in their first game out of the Holiday Break Friday night at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas. The Stars extended their lead in the AHL’s Central Division with the win, while Tucson moved to 14-11-4-0 on the season. Forwards Colin Theisen and Reece Vitelli tallied third-period goals in their first games since being recalled from the ECHL’s Atlanta Gladiators. Friday was the first game for Tucson since leading scorer Mike Carcone’s call-up to the Arizona Coyotes. Everyday skaters Laurent Dauphin, Adam Cracknell, Jan Jenik, and Travis Barron were also absent from the lineup, with three of the Roadrunners top five leaders in points not on the ice (Carcone, Dauphin, Cracknell). The Roadrunners and Stars will meet again Saturday night for the final game of the 2022 calendar year, before Tucson returns home for a four-game home stand beginning Friday, January 6.

Game #29 – Roadrunners at Stars

The 14-10-4-0 Tucson Roadrunners head out on the road for the final two games of the 2022 calendar year with a weekend series with the Texas Stars at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park Friday and Saturday. Friday’s series opener marks the first meeting of the season between Tucson and the AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars, and the first trip to Texas for the Roadrunners since March 12, 2022. The Stars enter the series atop the AHL’s Central Division in terms of standings points with a 17-7-3-2 record and have not taken the ice since a 3-2 overtime loss to Rockford on December 21. Meanwhile, Friday is Tucson’s first game since they hosted the San Diego Gulls a week ago on Friday, December 23.

Game Recap: San Diego (6) at Tucson (2)

Tucson, Arizona – The Roadrunners fell to the San Diego Gulls for the first time in four meetings this season Friday night in their final home game of 2022 by a score of 6-2. Tucson’s late six-on-five attack worked for most of the final seven minutes of regulation and allowed just one empty-net goal with 23 seconds remaining, as the series finale between I-8 Border Rivals capped off a stretch of nine games in 15 days for the Roadrunners. Laurent Dauphin and Curtis Douglas each found the back of the net, while Cam Dineen and Mike Carcone extended their active point streaks to five games apiece with assists. The Roadrunners will take a six-day break before heading to Texas to take on the Stars on Friday, December 30.
