NHL Preseason: Ducks at Coyotes

NHL hockey returns to the Old Pueblo as the Arizona Coyotes will play host to the Anaheim Ducks at the Tucson Arena Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. MST. The game will mark the Coyotes’ second preseason contest and their only one in the state of Arizona. The game will feature several Roadrunners alumni, as 19 players on Arizona’s Training Camp Roster have appeared for both the Roadrunners and Coyotes over the last six seasons.

Game Recap: San Diego (2) at Tucson (3) (SO)

Tucson, Arizona – The Tucson Roadrunners concluded the 2021-2022 regular season Friday night against their I-8 Border Rivals, the San Diego Gulls. In the season finale at the Tucson Arena, the Roadrunners held on for a 3-2 shootout victory. Terry Broadhurst and Hudson Fasching scored second-period goals to take a 2-0 lead, before Colin Theisen and Broadhurst netted a pair of goals in the shootout to come away with the win. Goaltender Ivan Prosvetov stopped 18 of 20 shots faced and was a perfect two-for-two in the shootout in front of a crowd of 5,410, the second largest of the season at the Tucson Arena.

Game #68: San Diego at Tucson

The Roadrunners close out the 2021-2022 season Friday night at the Tucson Arena, as they’ll host the San Diego Gulls for the second-straight night. Tucson took the series opener by a score of 6-2 with a four-goal second period. A Roadrunners win in regulation Friday night will secure the I-8 Border Cup Trophy for the fifth-straight year. Tucson has ended their regular season against the Gulls in four of their last five seasons.

Game Recap: San Diego (2) at Tucson (6)

Tucson, Arizona – The Tucson Roadrunners kicked off the final series of the 2021-2022 season Thursday night by hosting the San Diego Gulls for the first of back-to-back contests at the Tucson Arena. After trailing 1-0 at the first intermission, the Roadrunners rallied back with a four-goal second period to defeat their I-8 Border Rivals by a score of 6-2. Six different Tucson skaters lit the lamp, as netminder Rasmus Korhonen stopped 16 of 18 shots faced on the other end to improve to 2-0 this year at the Tucson Arena.

Game #67: San Diego at Tucson

The Roadrunners will wrap up the 2021-2022 season with their final two games at the Tucson Arena against their I-8 Border Rivals, the San Diego Gulls. The series marks San Diego’s first trip to the Old Pueblo since October 29 and 30, 2021. The Roadrunners and Gulls will be battling for possession of the I-8 Border Trophy, with Tucson looking to clinch the trophy for the fifth-straight season with a pair of regulation wins.

San Diego, California – The Tucson Roadrunners concluded their final road trip of the season Saturday night as they took on their I-8 Border Rivals, the San Diego Gulls. After scoring the only goal through the first 55 minutes of play, the Roadrunners fell behind to San Diego late before the Gulls came away with a 3-1 victory. Colin Theisen recorded his fourth goal for Tucson in his 14th game since joining the roster from Arizona State University. The goal was possible because of a hustle play by forward Oliver Chau for his third assist in eight games since coming to the Roadrunners from Quinnipiac University. Rasmus Korhonen made his third start in net for Tucson since his AHL debut on April 10 and stopped 18 of 20 shots faced. Saturday night marked the first of three-straight meetings between the Roadrunners and Gulls to end the season, as they’ll face off Thursday and Friday at the Tucson Arena.

Game #66: Tucson at San Diego

The Roadrunners will round out their final road trip of the season Saturday night as they’ll take on the San Diego Gulls at the Pechanga Arena. Each of Tucson’s final three games of the 2021-2022 season will be against their I-8 Border Rivals beginning with Saturday night in San Diego, followed by a pair of contests at the Tucson Arena Thursday, April 28 and Friday, April 29.

Game Recap: Tucson (1) at Bakersfield (5)

Bakersfield, California – The Tucson Roadrunners concluded the season series against the Bakersfield Condors Friday night with the sixth and final matchup on the season with the AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. The Condors defended their home ice with a 5-1 win at the Mechanics Bank Arena. Goaltender Ivan Prosvetov made the start for Tucson with 25 saves in 55:40 played, as backup Rasmus Korhonen filled in for 4:20 during the third period as Prosvetov left for the locker room momentarily.

Game #65: Tucson at Bakersfield

The Roadrunners will take on the Condors for the sixth and final time this season Friday night at the Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield. Tucson’s first trip to Bakersfield since March 5 marks the midway point of their current three-game road stretch before returning home to wrap up the season at the Tucson Arena. After Friday’s contest with Bakersfield, the Roadrunners remaining three games will be against the San Diego Gulls.

Game Recap: Tucson (1) at Stockton (3)

Stockton, California – The Tucson Roadrunners took on the Stockton Heat Wednesday night for the eighth and final time this season. In the Roadrunners first trip to the Stockton Arena since January 15, the Heat defended their home ice with a 3-1 win. Tucson’s goal was scored by Ben McCartney on the power-play for his 18th of the season, while Josef Korenar started in net for the Roadrunners and stopped 25 shots faced.

Game #64: Tucson at Stockton

The Roadrunners will open their final road trip of the season Wednesday night against the Stockton Heat. Wednesday’s matchup is the eighth and final meeting with the Calgary Flames AHL affiliate on the season, with Tucson looking to come away with their fourth win against the AHL Pacific Division’s top team. Their three prior victories over Stockton are currently tied for second-most against the team with the highest points percentage in the American Hockey League.

Game Recap: Colorado (6) at Tucson (5)

Tucson, Arizona – The Tucson Roadrunners wrapped up both the weekend series and the season series with the Colorado Eagles Saturday night at the Tucson Arena. After falling behind 4-0 in the first 7:39 of the contest, the Roadrunners battled back to even the score at 4-4 and 5-5 before falling to the Eagles 6-5 in regulation. Tucson forward Ben McCartney tallied his second hat trick of the season with a goal in each period of play. Ivan Prosvetov started in net for the Roadrunners before being relieved by Josef Korenar, as the pair combined for 26 saves. Saturday also represented the final game of Fan Appreciation Weekend presented by Dave and Buster’s, as a crowd of 5,196 came out to show their support.
